Port of Me Never Wants to Leave…

We were up at 8 am for another adventure on the island of Cyprus. We hopped on the bus once again and returned to the coastal city of Limassol to visit the largest port in the country, DB World, and tour its facilities. The presentation of the company provided information about their services (including cruises, containers, cars, gas, and grain transportation) and also gave us the opportunity to ask questions. Our presenter encouraged us to always ask questions in life, and since he lived in the U.S. when he went to college, he was able to reminisce on his experiences in our country.

Then, we got back on the bus for a short drive around the port to look at the different facilities (we were unable to walk around due to safety concerns). Soon after, we entered the nearby Eurogate facility, which primarily handles the shipping of cargo containers, and learned about the more logistical aspects of moving and storing them. We did a similar bus tour around the area with our presenter as a guide.

After we finished at the ports, we went to a restaurant in the Limassol Marina and had large platters of food to share. Then, we walked down the street to the Limassol Castle and were actually able to walk around to see all of the ancient artifacts housed inside. There were lots of tombstones presented in the one room, along with various pottery items, weaponry, and stonework. We continued walking around the marina, took a break on the ocean pier, and finished off by buying some souvenirs in the gift shop.

This was my favorite day so far with both the company visits and the cultural activities. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the port visits and am now considering a possible career in that industry. Additionally, I really enjoyed seeing the ancient relics that represented the history of this country, older than anything that can be found in the United States. Our country’s history is brief in comparison to the long existence of Cyprus.
