I woke up extremely excited today, why? because we get to take a train to the city of Ulm! At this point, I know that any day that starts with a German train as a method of transportation is bound to be awesome. Our first stop was the city of Ulm. This city is much smaller than Augsburg or Munich but still filled with history and stunning buildings, such as the Ulm Minster, which in a sense looked like Pitt’s own Cathedral of Learning. The most impressive characteristic of this building is that the Ulm Minster is the world’s highest church tower, and it sure looked like it.
The Ulm Minster had a gothic feel to it, something that differed from almost all our previous church visits. Although we were on vacation/tourist mode for the day, we needed to get our cardio and exercise in (as if the crazy amounts of walking weren’t enough) we claimed halfway to the top (construction didn’t allow us to go all the way, both a blessing and a curse) and were completely out of breath, every single one of us. However, no pain means no gain, and the pain was worth it. At the top, we were able to get an unbelievable view of the city, including The Alpes. Nevertheless, the pain and shaky legs were worth it. The way down was a little bit more bearable, as we sang Taylor Swift to distract us from the pain and the dizziness from the spiral steps.
To top things off, we went to this amazing Italian place for lunch where I had the biggest pie of pizza I have ever seen, I wouldn’t be surprised if they feed us such huge portions as a reward for the intense amount of cardio they made us do. If someone is a pizza fan, I can’t recommend L’Osteria enough, just make sure to go with on an empty stomach.
