Day 10: human centered design is everywhere

I started the morning by going to the coffee shop, Coffee Berry, since we had a slightly later start to the day. I was able to get an iced latte, and it was hands down the best coffee I have ever had in my entire life. Then, we headed to pwc for our presentations by the company. The whole pwc experience room was located on the ninth floor of their tower and it was really pretty because you could see very far on each side. I thought that the hologram display they showed us of the CEO was amazing and it was really cool technology. I liked the presentations but it was slightly difficult to follow what they were saying.I enjoyed when we broke out into groups and were able to interact with the employees one on one. I was speaking to the head of the experience center in Cyprus, Yannis. He was talking about how even though pwc is a core financial company, they have started these new consulting ventures to help companies build a targeted interface specifically for their own users. He talked about how they use design thinking principles to keep the consumers in mind and target their needs. This connected right back to one of my classes, the art of making. That class was all about human centered design and design thinking. As he was talking about their process, I was able to connect it back to the various things I had learned such as ideating and creating user personas. I didn’t realize how they used this process in business and other strategies too but it was cool to see a connection to something I had already learned about.

During that experience, we heard a bunch of honking and I learned later that there was a protest about Halloumi cheese. The cow milk producers were upset because of the new regulations set that Halloumi had to be more percentage goat’s milk than cows milk. Now, they had extra cows milk and so they were spilling it on the streets. During our free time, we went to this museum next to our hotel and up to the observatory where we could see in all directions. I was sad that this trip was ending during our farewell dinner but I was happy at all the memories I had made.
