A Day at PWC

Our last business day was spent in the futuristic office of Price Waterhouse Cooper.

Upon arriving, I was stunned by the level of sophistication and luxury of the office space we were visiting. There was a barista behind a coffee bar, and I treated myself to a latte. There was a stage that housed a 3D projector screen, amazing views of Nicosia, and yoga balls. I’ve heard of such office spaces at American tech companies such as Google and Facebook, but I never thought and actually see something like this in real life. This would definitely be somewhere that I would want to work.

Our first presentation was from Michael Muller, who was on zoom, about supply chain management. To be honest, this presentation was a bit over my level of understanding, but I still came out with serval takeaways. One is that supply chain management will be supremely important for the future, with much more optimization to come. Another is that emerging technology such as machine learning will be vitality important in the supply chain in the future.

We also went around to different stations, and I heard about a new concept called the circular economy. In the current version of the economy, products often have one use and are disposed of after that use. This could be seen as a bad thing or at least something to be improved upon, as this is a waste of money and is bad for the environment. In the circular economy, goods will be used more than once through the process of recycling. Products will be designed so that recycling can be possible. One example that was given was shipping wine in plastic bottles instead of gas. With the climate crisis we are facing, it was reassuring to hear such an innovative idea that could help us overcome it.
