Day 11 in Cyprus

To kick off our last day in Cyprus, I had my very last cappuccino from the hotel espresso machine. After breakfast, we all headed to the bus which then took us back to Zygi to tour Cyprus’ largest cement factory and hear from Vassiliko Port and VTTV. I had previously seen the cement factory in the distance when we would travel to Limassol for its many silos of storage and it’s own industrial port for the plant. When arriving, the huge metal structures and conveyor belts leading to the dock were impressive and seemed intricate. We were greeted with snacks and drinks in the true Cypriot hospitality fashion which was really nice. After hearing the presentations, what stuck with me the most was the company’s concentration on customer service since there isn’t any major competition on Cyprus in their industry.

After hearing from the companies, we were given a short tour of the plant including the control room that includes live videos of several different steps in the production process. We were then given a look at the port used by the facility and noticed there weren’t cranes like the last port but rather a conveyor belt leading from the factory that would deliver raw material to the ships. After the port, we drove up the hill to the silos. Here stood a little church on the edge of the cliff which I thought was really cool even though we weren’t allowed inside.

After this stop, we drove to Larnaca to visit the beach one last time. I ate lunch at a restaurant right across from the beach and then headed to the beach to sit for a while. After our time on the beach, we explored a nearby convenience and souvenir store before heading back to the bus. Once back in Nicosia, we attended our group debrief and then ate our last meal at Sham’s Food, the same place we ate our very first night in Cyprus. Though long, this was an amazing trip that I’m very thankful I got to attend.
