Auf Wiedersehen Pittsburgh… Hallo Deutschland!

Hello fellow bloggers! My name is Nicholas Monetti and I am a Freshman here at the University of Pittsburgh. I am from Buffalo, New York, so I love chicken wings and the Buffalo Bills! I am a huge sports fan, always playing or watching basketball, baseball, and football with my friends in my free time. I also like working out as I go to the gym every weekday.

Here at Pitt, I am double majoring in Accounting and Finance (focus in Accounting) and am minoring in Economics. I am currently the Social Media Chairman for the University of Pittsburgh Accounting Association and a member of Undergraduate Finance Club. I chose Pitt because I love the city of Pittsburgh and it is not too far away from home. Pitt Business specifically intrigued me because they excel in connecting students to the city and all the companies located downtown. After college, I plan on staying in the city and becoming an accountant for one of the Big Four accounting firms.

This summer, I am participating in Plus3 Germany! I am super, super excited. I chose to participate in this program because it is giving me the opportunity to study abroad during my first year, unlike any other program. In addition, the program is not too long (only two weeks) and is taking place in the summer term, allowing me to stay on track in earning 150 credits so I can sit for the CPA exam. I specifically chose Germany because I am German and Italian and have always wanted to go to either locations. Italy wasn’t an option, so Germany it is!

Plus3 Germany will allow me to personally accomplish my goal of going abroad, as I have never left the country before! I am the extrovert of my family, and so I am super excited to be the first one in my family to study abroad. Academically, this program will allow me to bring back my past experiences with the German language, as I studied German all throughout high school. I will also be able to learn about foreign culture and how foreign countries operate, being prepared for future business classes later in my college career. Professionally, this program is focused on the automobile industry, which will allow me to obtain valuable knowledge on the German economy and market, supply chain management, and assembly lines. It is important to understand not only our economy, but also foreign economies.

I am forever grateful for this experience and I cannot wait to be in Germany! I hope you all enjoy my journey!
