From Pittsburgh to Deutschland!

Hey everyone! My name is Eduardo Weissmann and I am a first year engineering student at the University of Pittsburgh. I plan on majoring in mechanical engineering with a minor in either electrical engineering or computer science and a certificate in design. I have been and plan on being involved in a variety of clubs on campus, such as the ski club and the SOAR club. My dream is to use my mechE background to either get a masters in aerospace engineering or to work for a space/aviation company like NASA or SpaceX and build the next generation of aerospace technology.

I was born here in Pittsburgh and have lived here my entire life. I am a die-hard Steelers, Penguins, and (sadly) Pirates fan and am proud to call myself a Yinzer. I love this city and enjoy biking around downtown and exploring the niche and fun places scattered throughout the burgh. During the summers me and my friends always travel to Seven Springs during the weekends to ski. Both of my parents are from Brazil, and every year or so we all travel their to catch up with family and enjoy the beaches. I love playing sports (especially soccer), cooking delicious meals, and hanging out with friends.

I have chosen to join the Germany Plus3 program for many reasons. Personally, I have always wanted to travel to Europe and experience the culture their. My parents used to backpack all across Europe and always speak fondly of it, so I knew I could not pass up the opportunity that this program provided. I am also a big car guy. I love watching formula 1 and going to the annual car vintage grand prix here in Pittsburgh. I knew that getting to learn about the automotive industry, and in Germany of all places, was perfect for me.

I also wanted to join this program for the academic and professional experience I will gain form it. Through this program I will witness real-world examples of hands-on engineering. I will also get a glimpse into the business aspect of the engineering world and how these two areas interact with each other. I also hope to gain insight on how different cultures impact both the engineering and business aspects of that area. I am very excited for this trip and can not wait to visit Germany!
