Hello everyone! My name is Ann Barney and I am a freshman at the University of Pittsburgh. I am majoring in Nursing and pursuing a Global Health Certificate. I am originally from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, which is about four hours east of Pittsburgh. At school, I am involved in the social committee for NSA (Nursing Student Association) and in the Undergraduate Research Mentorship Program with the School of Nursing. Furthermore, I am a member of Days for Girls and Cru, a Christian group on campus. I love to go on walks and try new restaurants with friends in my free time.
I am planning to go on the Argentina Plus3 program this May and I am very excited. Students from the School of Nursing and School of Business will be focusing on the healthcare system and the various sectors. Argentina’s healthcare system is very interesting as it is split into three main sectors: public, private and Obras Sociales. We will be touring hospitals and clinics among the different sectors, as well as many cultural visits. I am looking forward to learning about the positive and negative aspects of this healthcare system and really immersing myself into this new country. I have never been able to travel outside of the United States, so I am very excited to learn about the culture and everything Argentina has to offer!
