Hello, I am Elise Renee. I am a first year nursing student heading to Argentina for a comparative healthcare study abroad. I grew up in a suburb of Madison, Wisconsin, so for my birthday my mother did expedite me cheese and I watched every Packer game this year. On campus I am involved in NSA and am apart of the health equity committee. In my personal life I love running, reading, and trying new coffee orders.
At home I was a certified nursing assistant in a dementia specialized facility, and from that experience I knew I wanted to be a nurse at the bedside working with people all day long. Helping my residents with their day to day lives always brought my joy when I was leaving work. I hope one day to be an NP and be a primary provider, and I know that nursing can take me in a plethora of paths, and I do not like sitting still or being bored.
I choose to apply for the Plus 3 program because I wanted to gain more knowledge on a culture other than mine, especially in a healthcare setting. I am so excited to get to see how other people not only receive healthcare, but their views and opinions on their healthcare. I hope to gain from this experience a huge amount of perspective and views on healthcare policy. Healthcare as a whole is a complex, intricate system and seeing this system layed out in a completely new format will be incredibly eye opening, and I am ready for that!
