Argentina Plus3: Give and Take

Hi everyone! My name is Isabella Silva and I’m originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico. I’m a first-year Nursing student at the University of Pittsburgh and I’m hoping to pursue a certificate in Global Health as well. At Pitt, I’m involved both in NSA (Nursing Student Association) and PRSA (Puerto Rican Student Association). I’m also a UPMC scholar in the School of Nursing. Outside of student organizations and academics, I love spending time outdoors and going to the beach when at home. Running, traveling, and spending time with friends and family are also things that bring me joy.

I’ve always wanted to study abroad so I’m beyond excited to be going to Argentina for the Plus3 program this year. I chose the Buenos Aires program to learn how the health care system of another country is run, while giving me the opportunity to fully immerse myself in a slightly different culture from that of my home in Puerto Rico. While in Argentina, I hope to learn how local Porteños live their daily lives in the hopes of following their lead. For example, I’m looking forward to enjoying the local cuisine, listening to tango, and visiting the main sights. Most importantly, the knowledge that I’ll gain during our hospital and clinical visits, along with the human side of our interactions with the Argentinian people, will positively contribute to my development as a caring, well-rounded nursing professional.

Nos vemos pronto Argentina!
