Can’t Wait for Czechia!

Hello everyone! My name is Alex Kijowski and I am currently a Junior at the University of Pittsburgh. This is my second semester here at Pitt, as I originally transferred from Pitt Johnstown. I am finishing up an undergraduates degree in Civil Engineering, and plan on minoring in Mathematics. Additionally, I am on the Pitt Sports Club Hurling Team and travelled this spring to Louisville with my team to become the 2023 National Champions! I am a big fan of Pittsburgh sports, and have been a Pittsburgh Penguins Fan for almost my entire life. I also enjoy playing Soccer, and watching MLS games when given the opportunity. My favorite Team is FC Dallas. I spent my 2022 summer in Dallas Texas, as I worked as an intern for Peloton Land Solutions. I participated as part of the Hydraulics team, where I surveyed and designed for drainage basins in land development. This next summer, I plan on doing research at Pitt on the sustainability of concrete and aggregate materials.

I saw an opportunity to join the Prague Plus3 Program in my Civil Engineering Seminar, and wanted to learn more about it. I have always had an interest in European Culture and sustainability, and found that this was a perfect fit for me. I am also partly polish, and wanted to learn about some of the cultures of this area of Europe to see how my ancestors lived years before me. Personally, I am also very eager to learn about the culture of mass transportation in Europe. I believe it is something that will be of great importance in the United States coming in the next years, and I feel it is important to understand. Ultimately, I am very excited to learn about the different cultures around the world and meet other people along the way.
