Hello Argentina! After a long ten-hour flight from Atlanta, we finally landed in Argentina around 9am this morning. We were greeted at the airport and given a delicious Havanna chocolate from our travel agency. This was a delightful surprise because one of the speakers told us about this treat during a former zoom call in Pittsburgh. We then took a small bus to our hotel in downtown Buenos Aires and began our first official day on our Plus3 program. As I looked out the window, the structures of the buildings and apartments were different than I had thought. As we came in, there were high apartment buildings standing almost independently. As we approached the city more, the buildings did become more like my typical urban expectations.

After checking into the hotel and getting our things together, we went to be provided lunch by our traveling agency. It was outstanding. The view was spectacular and the food did not disappoint. A very kind, older woman came around with a tray of chorizo and carne sandwiches. There was a wide array of toppings and sides to indulge in as well. The cook did such a good job and it was a great way to talk more with my fellow peers. I preferred the carne sandwich, but both were wonderful.

Following lunch, a few of us began to explore the neighborhood around our hotel. We went into the park located just a block away and went into various shops. Some of us bought fresh produce, sweet drinks, or snacks for later. My favorite was the wide variety markets with fresh fruit and vegetables. I know I will be taking advantage of those throughout the next two weeks when I want something to eat. I look forward to shopping in the local establishments and trying new foods. One of my biggest adjustments will be the late night dinners. Restaurants do not serve food until much later than the United States. The travel agency recommended to go around 9pm or later to be served. As someone who goes to bed decently early, that might be tough, but we will make it work. Tonight, I went out to a restaurant in a group and the food was great. Throughout this week, I plan to try a variety of dishes. 

Another great experience I had, was going to a Catholic mass. It was held in Basilica de Socorro and the entire service was in Spanish. Regardless, I thought it taught be a lot about Catholicism, as I am Protestant. The church was so beautiful as well, seen in this photo. I am so excited to further explore this country and all that it has to offer!
