After a super long day of traveling, we finally arrived in Germany around 7 am this morning. Surprisingly, we got through customs pretty quickly and smoothly, and soon after hopped on the bus headed to Augsburg. As we were driving, the first thing that caught my attention were these massive and beautiful fields of rapeseed, which is used to make canola oil.
As we got closer and closer to the city, I began coming up with an image in my mind of what I thought Augsburg would look like. Initially, I thought that Augsburg would look similar to some European cities I have been to including Amsterdam or Paris. However, as we got into the city I realized I was totally wrong. Augsburg is nothing like any European city I have ever been to. The architecture was so simple yet still so amazing and beautiful. We talked about why this is and its because after many parts of Germany were destroyed during WWII, it was cheap and effective to build simple styled buildings compared to the roman style of buildings which was there prior. Although, there is still some roman architecture visible in the city.
All in all, it was an amazing first day in Germany and I cannot wait to see what the following two weeks will bring us!
