First Dutch Windmill siting!

Here’s to day one being complete! Boy was it a long one. When we first landed in Amsterdam, I felt sudden relief that I was holding in the entire flight; and wow was it a long flight. Luckily, with my calming movie selection of Interstellar and 2 capsules of Zzzquil, I fell right asleep . Waking up in a new continent was a weird feeling, but nevertheless, I was happy to finally be here. Though, our travel day wasn’t done yet.

Getting to the hotel took longer than expected. Honestly, I didn’t really mind the extra time in Schipol Airport because I got to embrace all of the different people around. People from all over the world were suddenly in the same place as me! There were even different food places that I wanted to try, but couldn’t on the time crunch.

When we finally got to the Generator, my breath was taken away. Amsterdam was just as beautiful as the pictures, and even more-so in person. Our hostel is located in a park called Oosterpark, where we walked with the group and ate a tasty poke bowl lunch after our neighborhood walking tour. If there’s one thing about me, it’s that I’ll eat poke bowls for every meal: 10/10 meal.

I’m not going to lie, getting to take a quick nap back at the hotel after our long travel days was much needed. We needed to charge up before our dinner at Bar Botanique. Our dinner was full of both Dr. Bursics’ telling stories of their past travels in the Plus3 program and a delicious steak dinner. Another thing about me is that I’ll never turn down steak.

My favorite part of the day was talking a walk with a few friends after dinner. We walked through the neighborhoods around our hostel and then continued until we reached Oosterdokseiland, aka a place near the centre of the city where we sat a chatted as the sun went down. Finally, after deciding we were too tired to function anymore, we walked home under the streetlights of Amsterdam talking of our excitements of this upcoming trip. Overall, this day was amazing, though tiring, and I can’t wait to experience many more days to come!
