Upon arrival, I observed the importance of nature and creating communities around the land. During the drive to Howth, I observed that many houses are small and close together. It left lots of room for bodies of water and historical landmarks. Once in Dublin, many stores and apartments are compact and squished around larger monuments. I assume this can reflect the nature of Irish people’s values and culture. I was very surpised with the city of Dublin as it reminded me of downtown Boston.

I enjoyed learning about the history of Ireland today with Dara. Themes of pride and revolution shined through his stories. The Irish fought very hard for their independence and many important historical figures sacrificed their life for the propoganda of this. My favorite story was about Constance Markievicz. She was a leader in the fight for independence and a key symbol of feminism in the country. I enjoyed learning that most young girls become acquainted with her legacy at a very young age.

As a person doing business in Ireland it is very important to know the history and values. For example, it would be good to know that Irishmen/women value relationships and friendships before professional connection. You need to arrange a lunch to get acquainted before speaking of business propositions. With a rich history of independence, a business man/woman would have to know the importance of this and how it has impacted politic/business ideals. The people of Ireland came together to fight the force of the U.K : they love eachother!
