Exploring the City: Netherlands Day 2

Hello! Today was all over the place so let’s start from the beginning. I had wanted to get up early enough to go to breakfast, but I woke up in the middle of the night and wasn’t able to fall back asleep for a while so I decided to sleep in. At 9:30, we all met up and walked down to meet Karel Bockstael, and engineer that worked for KLM, which is a European airline, for almost 3 decades. He now works with various groups and companies emphasizing the importance of sustainability in the airline industry. It was a very interesting lecture, where he provided multiple possible solutions to this issue, as well as the pros and cons of each one. After the lecture, we split off into groups and went on a “Fault in Our Stars” themed scavenger hunt, with various locations from the movie. Along this scavenger hunt, my group got food at a place called the Carousal Pancake House. I got this Brussels waffle with Nutella, banana, and whipped creme, and I have to say it may be the best waffle I’ve ever had! (Btw our group came in first in the scavenger hunt and got free apple pie)

After the scavenger hunt, we got to tour the Anne Frank Museum, and see the real house that she stayed in during World War 2. Unfortunately, they did not allow pictures. This was an incredible experience though and it was incredibly moving hearing interviews with Otto Frank, Anne’s father, and the experiences of others that survived the holocaust. After the tour, I made my way back to the hostel with a couple other people. This picture was taken outside a tulip museum, which was absolutely gorgeous. Hoping that the weather cooperates with us tomorrow. We are going to Zaanse Schans, and will be exploring the windmills there.
