Argentina day 2!

Today we had the opportunity of attending 4 different lectures from people in the healthcare field here in Argentina. We attended these lectures at a private hospital called Sanatorio De Los Arcos. Our first lecture was by Gabriel Novick. During his presentation he made many metaphors and comparisons. One of the metaphors was how the book Frankenstein can be used to describe the Argentine healthcare system. What I took from this was that all parts of a system are put together in order to reach a certain goal by working together. In Argentina’s healthcare system there are many working parts to it. All of the different sectors (private, pubic, and social security), are equally important. If one of these sectors suffers, so do the rest. With the book Frankenstein, the main character, Victor, creates a living monster from different body parts. All of these parts work together to make the monster and, like the healthcare system, need each part in order to survive. I also gathered that there is no small role. From the monsters thumb to it’s brain and from the Argentine healthcare systems identifying problems to providing equal and equitable care to all of their patients. Another reason that they are similar is that while the parts try to work together, they were thrown together with no real thought. With the healthcare systems a lot of the problems arise from a lack of communication and lots of fragmentation. With Frankenstein all of the parts came from different bodies so they are all not connected, but they try to work together. Overall this was very interesting to learn about and I loved the different perspective with the metaphors used today.
