Day 2 : Sanatorio Arcos

Today was a very interesting and informative day. We had an early start at 8 in the morning. We had 4 lectures at the private hospital called Sanatorio Arcos. There were four different speakers and one being our very own professor Dr. Grant Martsolf, Dr. Gabriel Novick, Dr. Luis Gimenez, and Dr. Jorge Lantos. Each of these gentlemen were very key in expanding my knowledge and understanding the Argentine healthcare and how it functions within three sub sectors. After Dr. Gabriel Novick and Dr. Luis Gimenez had their lectures we got lunch at a restaurant called Bio. At the restaurant I got pasta and it was very good. During Dr. Gabriel Novick’s lecture he made a lot of analogy’s for Argentina’s health care. One analogy that really stuck out was he made an analogy of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein to describe the Argentine health care system. The health care system in Argentina is like Frankenstein’s creation. As I mentioned the Argentine healthcare system is divided into three subg sections which are, the public system, the private system and obras sociales. There also is the National Ministry of Health which oversees those three systems. Considering each of the sectors of the system as body parts of Frankenstein’s creation you can see how they are all thrown together and compete on which is better. They can each be moveable parts. Frankenstein’s creature definitely shows how the healthcare system is ran. In each of the sectors there is overlapping. Argentina is failing at their health care system since they don’t have each of the right and exact part just like Frankenstein.
