Jet Lag & Graffiti Tags

After crashing yesterday evening, I was woken up at an early hour by the sunrise through the sheer curtains of our room and the eagerness to start the new day. Breakfast was better than I could have anticipated, with lots of unique and fresh options. After eating we began our tour of the city, which was breathtaking. I particularly enjoyed the John Lennon Wall, which featured layers and layers of graffiti tags (which have also been plentiful in other parts of Prague). I think it is special that this wall and its messages have persisted through time. I appreciate that it serves as a location for street art to flourish in a city where historical preservation is of the utmost importance.

Learning about the rich history of Czechia has been interesting and adds even more value to the beautiful sights of the city. I cannot begin to describe how it feels to be immersed in this new culture and setting. I am understanding more and more why Prague is described as a magical city.

Following the walking tour I visited the museum of communism in Old Town. It was impactful to learn about the devastation of communism in the east and how recent it was in history. It was also interesting to learn about the effects of the western world during this era. It really gave me perspective that I didn’t before have.

By dinner I was exhausted. Though the air was cool, the sun further drained me after a day of many miles that started so early. Despite the effects of jet lag, my excitement and eagerness to explore the city has remained.
