Croke Park and Personal Branding

Today started with a wonderful lecture from Ellie Doyle at Griffith College about the effects of ai on the future of the workforce, competencies, and building your personal brand. Then we toured Croke Park Hurling/ Gaelic Football Stadium.

More that 5 million low maintenance jobs will be totally replaced by artificial intelligence by 2025 but 15 million new jobs will be created by then. In the future 65% of jobs have not been created yet, therefore creating a strong and reliable future workforce. Then Ellie taught us about the competency model for career and jobs, and what characteristics are more hirable. Companies will not search to hire the most knowledgeable person with the highest GPA, knowledge is easier to change. Companies will put a larger emphasis on an interviewee’s competency and their skills which are more difficult to change, while you can teach them most jobs in 4 weeks. The competencies trending in 2022 include analytical thinking, innovation, active learning, creativity, emotional intelligence, and complex problem-solving while the declining traits include dexterity, endurance and precision memory, verbal, reading, writing, math, and active listening.

My personal brand includes my competencies, constant work, and goals. My strongest competencies are critical thinking, evaluation, and innovation. This all builds towards a personal personal brand which are all positively trending. I have constantly worked a variety of jobs including greens-keeping, landscaping, delivery, bussing, food-running, babysitting, and caddying. This variety of constant work has allowed me to understand numerous work environments and be more competent in each of them. And I set a high standard for myself in the workforce after college which keeps me motivated to focus on what I need to.

After the lecture, we had a very insightful tour at the Croke Park and learned the very important historical context of Irish sports. Almost all men and women play hurling or Gaelic football until they are 18 years old when players begin to play for one of the 32 club teams each representing once county. The culture around Irish sports is very different that the United States, after teams finish competing against each other they will all hang out in the same room together and drink, eat, and socialize. Understanding the culture of the Irish sports has given me great perspective on the Irish peoples characteristics that could reflect in the workforce.
