Today’s lecture was lead by the founder of TalentHub, Ellie Doyle. Ellie emphasized the importance of personal branding and marketing. As earlier mentioned by one of our other tour guides/mentees, business is all about who you know and the connections and opportunities that they bring. Considering that we are constantly marketing ourselves, it’s essential to filter our social media presence and avoid posting anything online that could potentially jeopardize your future careers/opportunities.
One of the biggest takeaways that I learned from Ellie is that no one is perfect, and it’s crucial to be authentic during interviews. Therefore, its essential to keep in mind that an interview is not just a one-sided evaluation; it’s an evaluation of the interviewee, but also an evaluation of the interviewer. It’s important to take this opportunity to evaluate whether the company is a good fit for you and determine if it aligns with your values and standards.
Ellie also stressed the significance of identifying your strengths or competencies in business. Personally, I’ve recognized that my strongest competencies are creativity, problem solving, and teamwork. My creative mindset enables me to bring fresh ideas and innovative solutions to the table, which further enhances my ability to collaborate with my team and build strong working relationships. With the strength of these relationships, I can analyze problems effectively and develop solutions that deliver the desired results.
Ellie also touched upon the importance of personal branding; the process of promoting what “you” as an individual stand for. These are the things that differentiate you from others and the unique combination of skills and experiences that make up your personality. In today’s competitive job market, having a strong personal brand can be the key to standing out to potential employers. Thanks to Ellie, I will work towards developing a clear personal brand and eventually achieve a strong professional identity.
