GEC and Fostering Growth

Today we headed to the Guinness Enterprise Centre, a company focused on helping entrepreneurs reach their potential as companies. Todays visit changed my mindset on being an entrepreneur. I have always thought of entrepreneurs as individuals with a goal to create their own business by using innovative strategies and ideas. While this is true, GEC helped me to understand that entrepreneurs are not limited to one person with a dream. Startups and new companies are focused on teamwork and community, and GEC helps new companies grow their networks as well as provides a space for them to meet with people who can help to change their mindset and teach skills that will expand their company as a whole.

The entrepreneurial mindset is more than just having goals and trying to reach them. There are many complexities of creating a new business, and true entrepreneurs should have the capability to see challenges they may face in the future, and work on how they can navigate through obstacles. GEC helps startups and entrepreneurs through these challenges and provides a global network of other entrepreneurs who most likely faced similar issues.

I love working in a team, especially one where mistakes are okay and challenges are faced together. Having different perspectives on facing challenges is one of the key takeaways I got from todays presentation. I would say that in this aspect, I have an entrepreneurial mindset. While I do not see myself as a crazy innovator, I have the ability to face problems with an analytical and calculated perspective, and I am not afraid to reach out for help when I am stuck trying to solve a problem.

My entrepreneurial mindset revolves around teamwork. I am a natural extrovert, so I am not afraid to put myself out there and ignore fears of judgement. My freshman year of college, I tried out for the Club Softball team, and it took every ounce of bravery that I had to walk into the first day of tryouts. I let myself become involved with the team and spoke with others about our collective nerves. I made the team and found a family in PCS, and my willingness to stick with it and focus on bettering the team has gotten me to the Business Manager position that I currently hold. I wanted this position because I wanted to help grow the team, as well as strategize ways to better use our money. I have always loved being part of a team and helping to cultivate growth and positivity is something that I want to focus on for the upcoming season.

Overall, today was a great day and it showed me the importance of networks and allowing other so help you reach your goals. Tomorrow my group is leading the questions for the Docusign visit, so stay tuned to hear all about that!

(PS, todays featured image is a lovely picture of St Patricks Cathedral that I took when I was walking by yesterday. Which cathedral is better: St Patricks or Cathy?)
