Saving the Environment

Today we visited CMMI, the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute. CMMI was founded in 2019 on the principle of working to protect the blue ocean and the environment maintaining sustainability. They have a wide range of services ranging from research and development, along with working to contain emissions. The institute is funded by the government along with the European Union to provide their services. CMMI is working to grow and expand their reach as they are preparing to open a new center as their space can not hold their expected growth going forward. CMMI is scouting over 600 potential partners and already is working with a large amounts of partners to push forward their agenda. They also partner with local universities to inform college students of their work, yet also seek interns as well. This is amazing as they are in their early stages of growth and they already have such a large number of partners and stake holders.

CMMI is working on a multitude of projects. A project they are working on is ZEST. This project works to create a zero emissions vessel. They are also implementing artificial intelligence to analyze weather patterns using pattern detection software to track which areas of the coast are safe for wind surf of swim. I found this to be really intriguing as they are implementing this at such an early stage within their growth process.

CMMI is on an upward trend towards saving the environment and making environmental protection a more aware topic in Cyprus, and is working hard to push this agenda to the western world as well. The amount of information that was served to us was a great introduction to how they are going forward with their mission.

One day the oceans may become clean and eco friendly if CMMI can continue to reach closer to their goals for the ocean and the world.
