Germany Day 5

The white sausage breakfast was a little strange. It was oddly crowded and many people were having beer at 9 in the morning. The place had an intense, unusual smell when you walked in, but you adjusted to it very quickly. The food was good but the experience was very strange.

We visited Forvia today and I was very impressed by the factory tour. The very first thing we saw was exhaust systems for Porsche 911 GT3’s being manufactured. We also saw lots of the processes being automated by very advanced robots. However, there were still lots of employees around. Forvia was an interesting company because aside from their experimenting with hydrogen fuel cell technology, they are a company that relies on internal combustion engine vehicle parts to make money. With electrification of vehicles becoming more and more mainstream these companies will have to adapt to survive. Forvia, although having the most employees, felt smaller than Grob, but bigger than Hoerbiger. It felt like a very streamlined operation.

Later in the day we went to a German restaurant, and it was very good but expensive. I find it weird that you have to buy water in Germany, you can’t just get tap water at restaurants because it’s all bottled. There is no expectation to tip like there is in America, however, and payment is handled in your view at the table, instead of the server taking your card or cash to somewhere else in the restaurant.

Similarly to Grob, we weren’t allowed to take pictures sadly.
