The Waterway to Tigre

It’s day 6 in Buenos Aires! It’s finally Friday, but that doesn’t mean we slow down and take some time off. Today we visited Tigre and Puerto de Frutos. It was a nice treat to get back a little earlier than normal to the hotel today for a much needed nap.

We visited Tigre, but what is interesting about Tigre is you travel to some places by boat. We took a boat ride to visit the only primary care facility for Tigre. It was a bit of a bumpy start for me as I got sea-sick from the boat ride. But I persevered and got to here about primary care facility. Here there are specialist ranging from pediatric doctors to gynecologist. One thing they do not have is a primary care doctor. A doctor who specialized in a little bit of everything or knows general concepts of everything. Primary care is important to have when you need a diagnoses. When you go for a check up because your back hurts, you may see a specialist who will just give you something to help manage the pain because there is nothing seriously wrong. One of the nurses who gave us the tour mentioned that when people have back-pain everyone gets and MRI because of the UHC, but 95% have nothing wrong and just need ibuprofen.

Being able to meet with a primary care physician would save money and resources for Argentina. Instead of having to meet with different specialists to figure out the problem, meeting with a primary care physician can help identify where the problem is and even if a specialist is needed.

We left the primary care center and took the boat back to Tigre to enjoy some lunch. We went to Vivanco for lunch. It was delicious. I enjoyed some gluten-free bread, a steak, and french fries. Everything was delicious and very filling.

After lunch we visited Puerto de Frutos, the town’s old fruit harbor that is now a busy craft market. There were so many shops with hand crafted cooking ware, utensils, dishes, bags, etc. It was a super cute place to visit and buy gifts for friends and family.

Tomorrow we are going to visit a ranch where there a so many activities to do, along with our BBQ lunch we are all excited for. I’ll check back in tomorrow and give a food review!
