Hello everyone! Today was probably my favorite day so far. We left the hotel at 8:10am to go to Tigre. Tigre is an Argentinean town and it is north of Buenos Aires. It’s main form of transportation is on a boat through the river. Once we arrived to Tigre we got on a boat onto mthe Rio Capitan river. This boat ride was so interesting. On the boat we met with nurse Emilse and nurse Eugenia. They did a great explaining many issues with the Argentine health care on the boat. One major thing that was discussed was primary health care and the importance of it. Argentina faces many challenges with primary health care. The doctors in Argentina typically go to school to be a specialist and not a doctor for primary health care. Typically if you would go to a hospital in Argentina you would go right to a specialist doctor instead of just a primary care doctor. On the river there were many sights to see. We saw a boat that functions as a school bus for people that live on the river and we saw the school kids waiting on their dock to get on the boat for school. There is also a boat for the ambulance. We arrived to a clinic that is basically the hospital for people that live around the river. It was an old house so it was very small but it functions as a hospital. In that hospital there is only a general doctor on one day and on the other days there are specialists. That can be very bad because what if there was an incident that didn’t involve the doctors specific specialty. That is a very big issue considering it would be hard to deliver high quality since there is no accessible primary care. I thought it was very interesting to see how people in the more rural areas function with health care rather than in a major city. After we had lunch we went shopping at Puertos de Frutos and it was such a cute place. It had many little shops. I had a really good day today and it was definitely one of the top days!
