Today we were very busy! We started the day with a visit to the Central Bohemian Innovation Center (SIC) and learned about what it’s like to be an entrepreneur here in the Czech Republic. The most significant difference I noticed is that there is much less in the way of resources for businesses to get started compared to the extensive opportunities we have in the United States. Later in the day, we traveled to a concert venue to see the end-of-year celebration for the local university. I thoroughly enjoyed our adventures here because we got to see more clearly the lives of the people who live here.
In terms of some of the little things I’ve noticed while spending time here, there are some peculiar differences between this city and any other big city in America. The most major is the lack of physical accessibility resources for people in wheelchairs. The sidewalks frequently change width, and there are very few ramps around the city. It would be quite difficult to maneuver through the streets of Prague in a wheelchair. Also, almost ever building in the US has doors that open in very consistent ways, like how exit doors always push out. This is not standard, and I have frequently pushed on a pull door because of a lack of information presented on the door itself.
