Hi! My name is Maggie Dowds, and I am rising sophomore from Pittsburgh, PA in the Nursing program with a Spanish minor. After finishing my BSN, I hope to continue my education and become a nurse practitioner to work in pediatric psychology. I enjoy studying my STEM-oriented classes as well as participating in extracurriculars like club volleyball and Greek life. I would also love to incorporate the use of Spanish into my nursing career through travel and global experience.
During my first year at Pitt, I have enjoyed making new connections with others and learning about the healthcare process. In my free time, I love to go on nature walks, try new food spots with friends, as well as spend time with my cats. When I’m home for break I enjoy reconnecting with old friends, dedicating more time to my language studies, and spending time with my family. The Plus 3 Argentina program sparked my interest due to my past travels to the Dominican Republic for a volunteer eye health program, the last trip taking place this past March.
I decided to pursue the Plus 3 Argentina program to enhance my knowledge of Central and South America, as well as my Spanish-speaking abilities. I’m excited to learn about how the Argentine healthcare system functions and operates under the newly elected president. I think that it will be valuable to witness how hospitals are run–as healthcare facilities and businesses–to help me further my perspectives of global heath in my future nursing career.
