Today we visited four key companies in the shipping supply chain industry. DP World, P and O, Eurogate, and Cyprus Port Authority. All of these companies have locations at Limassol’s main port. Breaking each of these companies down DP World is in charge of docking large passenger ships this often for curses. They also deal with oil tankers and more lightweight cargo ships. DP World is living in both the private and public sectors. within the public sector, they deal with the Cyprus government in encouraging cruise ships to come to Cyprus to generate revenue on the island. Meanwhile, the private sector is primarily cargo and oil they import in and out of the country. Keeping this company running smoothly there’s a lot of planning. This comes from industrial engineering and well-timed organization of the docking and unloading of ships. Working closely with DP World is P and O their goal is to help DP World remain sustainable and environmentally friendly.

Moving on to Eurogate. Eurogate primarily deals with moving large cargo shipping containers on and off boats. The company has 3 medium size cranes and just recently bought 2 large cranes. The company has to remain focused on optimization of the time it takes to load and unload the necessary containers on or off the ship. Because the longer a ship is docked at the port the more money is lost. In order to improve the company Eurogate focuses on the time it takes containers to be loaded by assessing their paths in the facility, the machines they are using, and the tucks that are being loaded to transport the cargo.

The final company I will touch on is Cyprus Port Authority. The goal of this company is to ensure all operations within the Limassol port are running according to the rules and regulations that are set by the Cyprus government, the United Nations, and various other countries regulations. Cyprus Port Authority works to improve their company by continue research of new regulations. As well as looking at forming the ports into more environmentally friendly locations. Whether by reducing carbon emissions or re-organizing processes to make them more efficient.
