Mootiful Day

Today was the day that. We traveled to the beautiful city of Rotterdam. Our morning started off a little rough as there was a little issue with the first train we were supposed to take. We had to move to a new train and wait a little while for it, so our itinerary had to be adjusted. This was okay because our group was able to adapt and move on with the fun day planned ahead. We arrived in the city and went to out new hostel for the night and then had some free time to explore the surrounding areas and grab a quick bite to eat before our lecture.

Today’s lecture was at the Floating Farm. The Floating Farm is the world’s first floating farm which produces dairy products in the city, close to the consumer. They do this in a sustainable, circular and transparent manner. The pros of the floating farm is that it helps with land space, urbanization, and environment. The farm prides itself in their abilities to use the biomass up-cycle machine and turn food nutrients and raw materials into new products, and energy. All of the cows are fed using recycled materials. Some of these include beer broth, potato peels, fruit, etc. The processes at the farm focus a lot on concepts to consumers. It goes from cow to city to cow. The floating farm gives innovation, education to the world and helps create sustainability.

After the floating farm we headed to the center of the city where the famous bridge and skyscraper buildings are. We boarded a large canal cruise ship to get the water experience of the city. The boat had many floors and had many viewing decks both indoors and outdoors. We had beautiful weather today, so it was a perfect day for the cruise. Something I realized about the city of Rotterdam is that the buildings are a lot newer and larger than they are in Amsterdam. This is because during WWII the city was completely bombed and had to be re-built. When the city was rebuilt the architecture styles changed and this is reflected here. After the cruise we headed to a wonderful dinner at Hotel Bazar. This restaurant focused a lot on Turkish style foods and was very delicious. I look forward to the time we get to spend here in Rotterdam!!
