To start our day, we had yet any other transportation mishap. Can you sense a theme? Basically, our original train got canceled and instead of taking the super-fast direct train to Rotterdam we instead had to wait half an hour sitting on the platform and wait for the slower indirect train. Luckily that didn’t interfere with our original plans too much and we got to experience misdirection abroad just like a true Dutch.
Our first visit of the day was to the world’s first floating farm. This was so cool, it consisted of a three tiered structure that was separated by functionality. This complicated system allowed the floating farm to be mostly self sufficient and its getting closer and closer to it every single day. This farm was a dairy farm and it had live cows as its inhabitants. Although they aren’t the traditional dairy cow, these dutch cows produced the best quality milk that’s rich in fat and protein. This floating farm uses floating solar panels to help run its machines and eliminates waste by selling products from the cow including their manure and it also helps the city eliminate waste by feeding the cows scraps from local businesses. This was a very interesting way to bring consumers products because it eliminates the need for the agriculture space and it increases sustainability by reducing waste and aiming for a self sufficient goal. To end our time here at the farm, we had a dairy tasting where we tried three kinds of butter milk, regular milk, and two types of cheese. All of it was so tasty and I can see why the Dutch cows are so sought after.
After our floating farm visit we went on a cruise around Rotterdam and got to see more of the city. It’s really interesting to see how new and modern it is compared to Amsterdam. This is because they completely had to rebuild the city after it was destroyed by bombs in the second world war.
Finally, my favorite part of the day, we had dinner at a Turkish restaurant called Bazar. I had never tried this kind of food before but it was absolutely delicious and I would recommend to anyone. We started off with chicken and veal kebabs with grilled veggies. The flavors of these kebabs were so good and filling. We then had rice which I topped with a chickpea stew and the combination was heavenly. It was so good but I could probably talk about it forever.
