Day of Ports

Today consisted of multiple visits to the ports of Cyprus. First being Dubai Port world. Dubai Port World is a private company that the government of Cyprus brought in under contract. DP World has 3 major terminals. First being their terminal for cruises and commercial traffic, Oil Gas, and Cargo. The speaker was very charismatic and straight forward. He asked a lot about us, which was nice, as not many of the prior speakers has really interacted with us by asking about what we wanted to pursue careers in and so forth.

The next speaker was from P&O Maritime. P&O focuses on the tugging and piloting side of their company as they work in the water and not necessarily the port. P&O does have a negative thought for us internationals. In order to work for P&O, you need to speak Greek. They do offer resources though to learn Greek.

Our next stop was Eurogate. Eurogate is the neighboring port in which only focuses in cargo. They have heavily upped their tech over the past so many years to increase their efficiency. For example, they have bought more cranes which can support more weight and move at a quicker pace. They also integrated a new system to process cargo quicker and to process cargo through customs all electronically. This is really cool to see as investing in yourself leads to success. Eurogate also took us on a tour of their facilities along with letting us stop to see some cargo get loaded onto a ship. They also offered us refreshments which is always a plus.

Lastly, our last presentation was from the port authority of Cyprus. They took us onto a boat and treated us to lunch. They followed this up by talking to us about what they do and what their goals are. We chatted with them and asked some questions before we headed back to our hotel for the day.

To conclude, the ports of Cyprus are ESSENTIAL for the country and we need to continue to rely this info to the next generations. I would also like to thank everyones hospitality for their continued hospitality.
