It’s been a pleasure here going to Charles University and learning from their instructors. However, I have noticed a few differences between the university here and Pitt. One thing that I noticed was here in Prague, it appears as if the students here are expected to conduct themselves on a level of formality much higher than we conduct ourselves at Pitt. For example, we learned that the students wore suits and dresses for their final exams. I was wearing sweats in most of my exams! Additionally, our tour guide mentioned that during class here in Prague, students are sitting upright, attentive, in a good posture, locked in on what the instructor is teaching. She continued on to say that we she studied in the states, it was much more relaxed, and that although students were attentive, there was much more of a casualness to their behavior. These are insightful differences. Maybe we have something to learn from Prague on the clear value they put on education. Maybe accessibility to education has made us casual towards it. Maybe my peers and I have taken things for granted.
