Saturday Night’s Alright!

Saturday morning we woke up bright and early and hopped on a bus to the town of Kutna Hora. The drive was about an hour but I slept the whole way.

The first thing we saw in the town was its most famous attraction: the bone church. Officially called Sedlec Ossuary, this church dates back to the 15th century and is decorated entirely in human bones. The bones were dug up from the surround cemetery to make room for the growing town, and sat unused in the basement of the church until the new plans were made. The skulls and femurs are the most used bones in the decor, but almost every other bone can be found inside the ossuary as well. Hanging from the walls, stacked into towers, and strung into chandlers, it’s creepy but sort of beautiful! No pictures allowed, but you can find some online!

Next, we visited the cathedral and saw the amazing flying staircases and other beautiful architecture the functioning church had to offer.

We got back on the bus and drove deeper into town. The main attraction of the town is the church of St. Barbara. The church is easy to see because of its massive height and amazing flying buttresses. The town of Kutna Hora was put on the map because of its silver mines. The miners, who were wealthy after years of work, but this church to honor the patron saint of dangerous jobs like their own. The inside was filled with colorful wall paintings and stain glass windows.

The rest of the day we spent walking around the town! We had pasta for lunch and some ice cream for dessert. We eventually got on the bus and headed back to the city of Prague.

In the evening, we went to a “paint your own souvenir” shop! Because we’re all perfectionists, we spent about 3 hours painting and ended up getting cheap kebab and pizza takeout for a late dinner.

We headed to The London Underground next, another karaoke bar! I sang three songs: Eenie Meanie- a Justin Bieber classic, Everytime We Touch by Cascada, and I finished the night with some Elton John! Being in a London themed bar on a Saturday night meant I had to sing Saturday Night’s Alright (For Fighting)! Another great day in Czech!
