Today’s journey started with us visiting the University of Amsterdam’s Engineering School. The building was very nice and big inside. The engineering student mentioned they have a movie theater, and the tuition is around three thousand which is very low compared to colleges in the US. It was interesting hearing they only have engineering as a master’s program and it involves a lot of software and computer science. After the tour, my friends and I went to the coffee shop to get coffee which was really good. This was the first place I’ve been to in the Netherlands that sells a mocha. Then we got lunch in the cafeteria which was good too. 

Next we took a tour of the Schipol airport by the company KLM. Our guide took us into different buildings to see what they work on for the airport. The one building they make engines for the planes. Another building we went into specifically tested the engines, and we got to see the behind the scenes of the controls to start the engine. Going through each building showed the supply chain and what makes up the airplanes. This also demonstrated ways of concept to customers of why plane tickets are pricey. There’s so much that goes behind making the planes and the staff involved. No wonder why the tickets are priced the way they are. This was a good learning experience.

Later in the day, we got dinner and attended an event sorta like a talk show about sustainability. The dinner was Moroccan food, and it was good. The whole theme of the event was designing cities for all they claimed. I did not enjoy it as they brought ideas and hope but gave no evidence of how they can improve sustainability. It just didn’t make sense to me and to the people surrounding me. And to go along with that, the main people talking didn’t really answer the questions to the people in the audience. The good part of it all was the live music that I very much enjoyed.

Finally, to end the day, I got to try a Dutch McFlurry from McDonald’s with the candy called Maltesers in it. It was so good. It has that candy and hot fudge poured on top. It reminded me more of sundae and definitely worth getting. Overall, today was a good and eventful day.
