Today we visited the Cliffs of Moher and Galaway. It was about a three hour drive and our bus was so so nice. It had tables and blue lights and felt like a party bus. The drive was fun but it was also the first time I felt car sick because of the winding roads. This is one of our last tourism activities of the trip and it was a perfect choice. The cliffs were beautiful and I finally got gifts for some of my friends and family. Reflecting on the tourist activities, I noticed tourism is a big chunk of successful business in Ireland. Everyday I have seen more than one bus and walking tour full of people. As a foreigner, this makes Ireland seem more welcoming and allows me to better understand the history and the landmarks. As for the culture of Ireland as a whole, it may be annoying to those living there as they are surrounded by tours. But, because so many people visit Ireland, it allows for people to build a more diverse network and may open up more opportunities professionally and socially.
If I was charged for making a sales pitch for Ireland, I would highlight the rural spots because they are unique as well as the friendliness of people. In addition, I would make a point to highlight the rich history behind various landmarks and places in order to add value to the country and promote a sense of connectedness and pride. I feel as though this will make travelers want to come to Ireland as well as make those who already live there proud.
Overall, today was great and even though we were on the bus most of the day, it was nice to talk and be around everyone as the days go by and we near departure. Tomorrow we have a Microsoft and a Think House visit so look out for more info on those tomorrow!
