The life of a farmer is tough, and the life of a Tico farmer is no different. Farming is a lot manual and mental work, as you need to physically take care of the plants, and also manage the farm and its workers in your mind. Luckily for Ticos, the community is behind them and so is their attitude. As far as we were presented, Tico farmers love life and cherish beauty. They are also very smart and adaptable, with many taking advantage of the tourist industry to grant themselves quite the extra profit. The average Tico farmer has a hard enough life, but it is even harder for those farmers trying to go full organic. Not using the pesticides Costa Rica is famous for buying is incredibly hard, as you add on the extra labor of dealing with the insects and animals eating away at the literal fruits of your labor.
If I was the child of a Tico farmer, I would be faced with quite the dilemma. I personally do not see myself being able to be a farmer. I could sell my land and go out into the world working as whatever I’d like to be, but that means being a part of a growing problem of farmers selling land. Or, I could bottle up my hopes and farm away the rest of my life but be left with my dignity and some piece of mind that I held my ground against the tide. Sadly, as with a lot of children of Tico farmers, I would most likely sell the land and live my life. However, I think a dog as cute as this one living on the farm would sway my opinion towards farming.
