Food Wars: A New Hope

While Ireland is a country of magnificence and splendor, it would be wrong to ignore the country’s fair share of issues. Not unlike many countries around the world, drug problems, homelessness, and other difficulties are prevalent through the places I have seen. This fact is what makes companies like FoodCloud so important within Ireland. With many people struggling for food during this time, it will take a whole community to find a solution that will benefit everyone. The first step is to assemble and take action towards a better tomorrow. This is exactly what FoodCloud has done. At its core, FoodCloud is a food pantry that works closely with local charities to provide food for people experiencing food insecurity (the inability to access sufficient/adequate food for whatever reason). This company has ingrained themselves within the Irish community acting as a backbone for people who may be short on hope. The lecture we received today at the FoodCloud warehouse in Dublin opened my eyes to how big a problem food insecurity is not just in Ireland, but around the world. Specifically, in the US, it was stated that we waste hundreds of billions of dollars worth of food per year. We were told that the amount of food produced per year is enough to feed the entire global population with 15% extra still left over. This shows that there is an allocation problem that exists within the food industry, and this is one of the issues that FoodCloud looks to tackle.
