I’d Climb Mountains to Stay Here

Our last full day is here. Started the day with our last breakfast, definitely will be missing the fresh fruit and orange juice prepared for us every morning.

Afterward we walked over to BSM as it was local to the marina. We got a short introduction about their company and explained that this facility was for training purposes to train crew members to join the crew on a ship.

We first went into the bridge room which had controls and panels for different simulations like rain, running aground, other ships, and more to train team strategies to work together to overcome these scenarios and know what to do when problems arise. It was cool to watch the trainees do the simulation. It helped really piece

We then saw other simulation control rooms like the gas leak room as well as a room for the control panels. This room was definitely my favorite as it was very interactive and had so many switches and buttons for scenarios that could be practiced and just be trained from start to finish for captains and engineers to get a feel for everything. I never really knew what went into training for these crews and didn’t even think that it could be automated like this, but seeing that it is very possible and able to be completed this way, especially being more environmentally friendly this way, it is very impressive.

After our last company visit we headed to Omodos in the Troodos Mountains. I was very excited to visit here as this was what my group presented in our pre-departure meetings. Here, we got a delicious lunch in a very unique restaurant and then visited the local monastery and toured around it before we got some time to explore. We then headed back and rounded out the day with some group gelato and a great dinner with Pitt Alum located in Cyprus which was very cool. I am very sad to have completed our last day, now just a long travel day ahead 🙁
