Today was our last breakfast which none of us can still believe. We went to get another shipping company- you would think at thins point there is no more possible shipping companies. But, this just goes to show the effect on the global supply chain that this small island nation has.
We visited Bernard Schulte Ship Managment Training Center and learned about really interesting advanced ways of training ship crew including advanced fire techniques. We saw designs for the ships and learned how the ship was designed for extra fire safety protocol. Applying basic science we know that oxygen is required for fire it was easy to understand why they implement the architecture they do on ships and understand their way of training.
We took a tour of their facility which included many different simulation rooms and training rooms. It was so cool to see how they practice and I never considered it to be that hard but after sitting in on a simulation for a few minutes I was able to see just how complex it really is. In the simulation they ran into a sandbar and were hit by another ship. If this were to happen on the water and the crew couldn’t act accordingly this would launch delays in operations for months given the size of their ships. They take a small class approach to teaching which ensures that all of their staff and crew is fully capable of doing anything and everything needed of them on the ship. The idea of harmony and respecting the sea was also brought up which correlates to how passionate this company is for what they do.
After this we had a lunch in and time in Omodos Village and visited the Timios Stavros Monastery. This monetary was fairly similar to the other we have seen but the village surrounding it was breathtaking. It was similar to Leftkara with small cobblestone streets and refreshing to now how to worry about cars here waling around like I would at home. I shopped around a bit and we had a Maze style lunch. Started off with salad and fresh feta, risotto, and there was a large portion of meat. Dinner tonight was also Meze style and so sad that its our last dinner together.
Written at 3 am in the LCA airport. Taking off for Germany tonight!!
