Making An Impact

As the group leaves to Morrow, today was our last site visit.  We went to a company called Food Cloud which is essentially A connector that connects retail companies with charities to allow for less food waste and to help people in need.  They’ve made themselves part of the community by expanding their footprint and donating millions of meals to those who are in need. They have three warehouse locations across Ireland and also have different operations in the UK and other parts of Europe.  With many companies in Dublin and around the world becoming much more sustainable Food Cloud fits right in.

This is what allows their business model to be so successful. One in nine people in Ireland are in poverty. Because of the large economic boom and they’re not being many low paying jobs this has led to a high level of homelessness.  Food Cloud is there to help combat this and the company is surely going to expand moving into the future.

I believe the most innovative part of their business is having the ability to connect with these other companies/stores that take advantage of food that is passed the sell by date but is still perfectly fine to consume.  This is something that all of these food charities need to be doing so that there is less food waste in the world.  It was also very impressive the CEO founded the company at the young age of 20 years old.  It’s very inspiring to see the work that they’re putting in to make the world a better place.  It also inspires me to continue to volunteer when I can in the summertime as it makes such a large impact on those that are in poverty.
