My name is Amaris Mbuagbaw, and I’m thrilled to share a bit about myself as I embark on this wonderful adventure. Currently, I’m a dedicated student at the University of Pittsburgh, where I’m pursuing a degree in biomedical engineering(specifically Medical Product Design). My passion for this field stems from a lifelong fascination with the power of medication. Since I was young, I’ve marveled at how a single dose of medication could alleviate a person’s pain, making them feel better within almost an instant.
I spent a significant portion of my upbringing in Cameroon, a beautiful country in West Central Africa. Growing up there exposed me to rich cultural experiences, shaping me into the person I am today. However, my transition to the United States for high school opened my eyes to the beauty of exploration. Adapting to a new way of life, culture, and even cuisine taught me that stepping out of my comfort zone is essential for personal growth. This realization fueled my desire to travel and learn about diverse cultures, ultimately leading me to choose the University of Pittsburgh, despite its 1094 mile distance from my hometown in Cypress, Texas.
The University of Pittsburgh has been an incredible journey, offering me not only a top-notch education in engineering but also the opportunity to immerse myself in a vibrant and diverse community. However, one of the highlights of my university experience is undoubtedly the chance to participate in the South Korea Plus 3 program. Korea’s reputation as one of the world’s technological powerhouses makes it an irresistible destination for an aspiring engineer like myself. I’m eager to witness firsthand how these advancements impact Korean daily life and interactions, and I’m particularly intrigued by how Korean culture prioritizes sustainability amidst its industrial prowess. I can’t wait to delve into the wonders of Korean society, broaden my horizons, and return home with a treasure trove of unforgettable experiences and stories to share with friends and family. This journey promises to be a transformative adventure, and I’m ready to embrace every moment of it with open arms.
