Hi everyone! My name is Kam Chan, and I am currently a freshman within the Swanson School of Engineering studying Industrial Engineering. I am from West Homestead, PA which is only a quick 15-minute drive from the University of Pittsburgh! I have 2 older brothers, one of them who also went to Pitt, and 3 nieces and 2 nephews. When I’m at home, I usually spend most of my time with family or friends, but I also love bowling, going for runs/walks, and playing basketball. At Pitt, I am one of the Kessler Scholars, a member of the Asian Student Alliance (ASA), and work as an intern at the Student Success Hub.
This upcoming summer I will be participating in the Plus 3: Netherlands program and visiting all of what the Netherlands has to offer.
Plus 3: Netherlands
As I mentioned, I will be going on the Plus 3: Netherlands trip and I am so excited to do so. This will be my second time going abroad, and I chose it mainly because I really had no prior knowledge of what the Netherlands was like beforehand. Beforehand, I had traveled to Croatia, Montenegro, and Italy, and I have always loved the idea of traveling to new places, so the Netherlands was essentially a shot in the dark somewhat. However, now learning about the Netherlands and seeing all the reels on my explore page (from my phone listening to me research about the Netherlands), I am more excited than ever.
I hope to learn more about the culture that surrounds the Netherlands and how they deal with engineering and economic development within their country. I hope to learn more about what makes the Netherlands so special, not just in their scenery but also the people. Professionally, I want to explore how the different companies that we will be visiting deal with sustainability and essentially how their companies work in tandem with all of the standards and regulations set by the country. Overall, I just want to learn about how the companies made their way to be such a big corporation especially with the types of products that they sell.
