About Me!
Hello everyone! My name is Brandon Haines, and I am a first-year student in the Swanson School of Engineering majoring in chemical engineering and planning on getting the nuclear engineering certificate. In the coming years I hope to further my involvement in clubs like Chem-E-Cube or AIChE. I hope to eventually go out west and maybe get my master’s in some place warmer. After I graduate, I hope to work with alternative/renewable energy, to help create a more sustainable future.
I am from Ambler, PA which is in the suburbs just outside of Philly. At Pitt I am involved with the Ultimate Frisbee team and in my free time enjoy playing pick-up soccer with my friends. Back home, I used to love finding hiking trails and exploring the nature around me. I have traveled out of the country 3 times – Canada, Bahamas and most recently Australia. I love travelling to new places and experiencing new cultures, so I am very excited for what this Plus3 program has in store!
Plus3 Cyprus
I have chosen to go to Cyprus, where I hope to learn more about supply chain management and energy production. Cyprus is an island in the Mediterranean, making it an ideal place for international trade. During our pre-departure classes we learned about how Cyprus was conquered and reconquered many times in its history, due to its advantageous location. I hope to learn more about Cyprus’s vibrant culture and visit as many of the cultural/historical locations as I can.
I have already learned quite a bit during the pre-departure classes, such as the recent history and ancient history of Cyprus. I am excited to travel with my peers, making new friends along the way. I hope to gain a better understanding of the business side of companies, as it is something that I am not very familiar with. This program will be an adventure from start to finish, and I can’t wait to embark on this journey.

Great, enthusiastic post Brandon!
