About Me
Hi, my name is Colin FitzGerald. I’m from Richboro, PA, and I am a first-year, honors student studying Accounting, Business Analytics, and Business Information Systems and minoring in Economics at the University of Pittsburgh. Outside of my classes, I am involved with Phi Beta Lambda and Hillel at Pitt. In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with friends, eating good food, reading, and traveling.
I work as a freshman Teaching Assistant for Programming Essentials for Business under Professor Brad Messner. At home, I work at my local Applebee’s as a Host, Carside Specialist, Neighborhood Expert, and Expeditor. In high school, I was involved in numerous honors societies including National Honor Society, where I tutored students for upwards of 60 hours collectively my senior year.
The Netherlands
In May I’ll be traveling to the Netherlands through Pitt’s Plus3 Program. I’m a travel fanatic, and I’m excited to see the Netherlands because it will be my first time in Europe. I’m a big fan of maritime climate, so the Netherlands was the perfect option for me when I had heard about the program. I’m very excited to experience the Netherlands with this great group of people, and am particularly interested in learning more about the businesses that operate there.
I’m excited to learn about the businesses and history of the Netherlands, as I’m both a business major and a bit of a history-buff. In terms of my professional development in the Netherlands, I’m excited to see how Dutch businesses keep to strict sustainability requirements and hopefully I’ll be able to bring some of that knowledge back and use it in a professional setting. Having connections with businesses abroad can be very helpful when looking for positions after college, and I hope I’d be able to reconnect with some of the people we meet there as I pursue employment after college. As a person majoring in Business Analytics and Business Information Systems, I’m also excited to see how some of these companies using cutting-edge technology and programming techniques to make their businesses processes more efficient and sustainable.
Overall, I’m very excited for this opportunity to connect with another culture and share this great experience on my blog.
