Hello! My name is Emily Roy, and I am a freshman nursing student from Cream Ridge, NJ. I am currently pursuing my BSN degree at the University of Pittsburgh Oakland. Here at Pitt, I am a member of the Nursing Student Association (NSA), and I am on the service committee. I also participate in the Undergraduate Research Mentorship Program (URMP). In my free time, I love going to the gym with friends, exploring Pittsburgh, having movie nights, and reading when I get the chance! My future goals in nursing are broad as I am figuring out what to specialize in, but I plan to go back to school to pursue a nurse practitioner or CRNA degree! Over the summer, I will be working as a camp counselor manager at a summer camp back at home.
Plus3 United Kingdom
I am so excited to be studying abroad in the United Kingdom! I have been dreaming of going to the UK since I was around 6 and determined to master a British accent. Not only am I looking forward to immersing myself into the UK’s culture, but I am also interested in learning how the hospital and education systems differ as compared to the US. During this program, I will go to Birmingham City University where I can visit hospitals and schools as well as talk to students and staff members. I have special interest in both women’s health and pediatrics, so I am especially excited to talk to nurses in the field and visit the hospital’s school for long-term pediatric patients. I also cannot wait to visit the Florence Nightingale Museum and see Mama Mia in the West End theater!
I look forward to learning about diversity in the UK and the intersections between nursing, social work, and education. I have never been abroad before, so I am so grateful to be offered this amazing opportunity! I hope to investigate similarities and differences between the US and UK healthcare systems so that when I am practicing as a nurse, I can blend my knowledge to provide the best care possible for my future patients.
