Introduction: Simon Thompson

Hi Everyone, my name is Simon Thompson, and I am a freshman here at Pitt, majoring in Supply Chain Management and Marketing. Originally, I am from Westfield, NJ, a small suburb about 30 minutes outside New York City. My sister attended Pitt and graduated last year. Her love for this school was a big reason I ended up here at Pitt. Unfortunately, she was a freshman during Covid, so she never got the opportunity to embark on a Plus 3 journey. This summer, I will be working as a logistics intern at Wakefern Food Corp. I am very excited about this opportunity as it is a specialized position focused on interns with a Supply Chain Management background.

Ever since I can remember, I have always loved traveling. I have been all around the world, but I have never stepped foot in Asia. When I applied to Plus 3, I knew I wanted to go somewhere in Asia, which narrowed down my options to South Korea and Vietnam. As a Supply Chain major, Vietnam will be a great learning hub since a large majority of products in America are manufactured there and shipped here. This opens the door for great conversations about how the Supply Chain works and will be a great experience to use as a talking point in future interviews. Along with the professional side, I also love history, and Vietnam is packed with significant history, including the French occupation and the infamous Vietnam War.
