Introduction: Niyati Cannanbilla

Hi, my name is Niyati Cannanbilla! I am from Wexford, PA, which is about twenty minutes north of the city. I am currently a freshman studying Finance and Marketing, with a minor in Economics and a Global Health Certificate. I will be traveling to Buenos Aires, Argentina this summer through Pitt’s Plus3 Program. I recently joined Delta Sigma Pi, a professional business fraternity, and have also been apart of Undergraduate Finance Club and SASA. This summer, I plan to intern at a technology company, Jarus Technologies, based here in Pittsburgh.

Outside the classroom, I love golfing, shopping, trying new foods, and traveling! This past summer, I traveled to Spain, so I am intrigued to know if I can remember enough Spanish to effectively communicate in Argentina too!

As I am pursuing a certificate in Global Health, Plus3 Argentina seemed like the perfect fit for me! My interest in healthcare began when I started volunteering at my local hospital a couple years ago, as this specific hospital seemed to have more resources than necessary compared to the amount of patients being treated. This caught me off guard, especially when this was shortly after COVID, and hospitals a mere ten miles away were struggling to keep up with patients. Based on the preliminary research that we did, Argentina’s system boasts many similar to the US, but is facing many issues both economically and politically, so I am interested to witness how these issues play out tangibly, like in hospitals. I know the US system is a rather controversial one, so I am curious if similar issues such as extreme costs and inconsistent coverage exists as a global issue as well.

Overall, I am very excited to travel to Buenos Aires through Plus3, and learn more about both their healthcare system and their culture!
