From Illinois to Pitt – Pre-Departure

The last couple days have been a whirlwind of emotions leading up to the departure to South Korea. Due to flying to Pittsburgh this morning, I felt a lot of anxiety and nervousness towards the trip yesterday. Part of this frustration happened because my suitcase broke during move out, so I had to quickly find a replacement. Resulting in me rushing to pack everything at the last minute. Which then set off a chain reaction of not being able to fall asleep until one hour before I needed to wake up. Additionally, even though I have been out of the country, I have never flown for this long before, which scares me a little.

While I still feel some nervousness in the air, today I feel more excited for the trip than anything else. Everything in the morning went smoothly, I got up on time, the flight was smooth, and I got a good Uber driver. When I finally arrived to Nordenberg, the first thing I did was go to lunch at Panera. Then, I waited around the dorm until 4pm for the pre departure meeting and dinner.

Now, it is less than 7 hours before the departure, and the biggest question is to sleep or not to sleep. As we must be in the lobby at 2:40 am, I still do not know which option to choose. On one hand, I barely slept the night before. On the other, I have a habit of not sleeping on planes. It can go either way, but both options will result in being tired.

Even with all the unknown I am extremely excited to begin my departure to South Korea tomorrow. I feel like this will be a once in a lifetime experience. Out of the site visits, I am most looking forward to going to the Samsung innovation museum and the DMZ. For the activity’s, I cannot wait for the cooking class or the baseball game.
