Even though on a calendar today is our day two of being in Buenos Aires, it really was our day one of doing anything. We were supposed to have a three-and-a-half-hour layover in Atlanta, but that instead turned into a 12-hour layover with a nice night spent in the airport. After this bump in the road, we finally made it to the city of Buenos Aires! When arriving, our first stop was to the IES building. They provided us with a barbeque dinner of chorizo sandwiches with various toppings accompanied by grilled vegetables. It was great to have a home cooked style meal after an extremely long two travel days. Today, we started with heading over to IES for a quick presentation on our safety and health resources and were provided with a salad lunch. We then went to the Universidad de Austral and had the privilege to have two presentations by Gabriel Novack and Luis Jimenez. Gabriel Novack is the director of Swiss Medical Group and presented us with the differences throughout the Argentinian healthcare system. This includes the differences between public and private systems, obras sociales, and personal payment plans for insurances. Luis Jimenez was the Minister of Health for Argentina during the years of 2017 to 2019. His presentation included what duties he was assigned when Minister as well as the upcoming plans the system wants to implement for the future of the Argentina healthcare system. Lastly, we got to finish the day with tango lessons! This was the highlight of our day of events because everyone got to have so much fun all together. Even though we might not be the next features on Dancing with the Stars or be confident enough to go dance on the dance floor of a milango (tango disco), it was still a great experience to do all together. So far, Argentina has made a great impression on us. I cannot wait to see what else will happen these next couple days as we explore more in the city and all of those that surround it.
